World Bank has undertaken a project for activity the State Pollution Control Board of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. This Project is tilled "World Bank Pollution Project II" under the Phase of the project four state viz. Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharastra and Uttar Pradesh were covered. |

| Objective | |
The basic objective of the project is to assess the current needs and resources of the Pollution Control Board of the these four states and prepare a programme of institutional strengthening to enable them to discharge their regulatory and monitoring functions in the coming decade. |
|
The projects overall objective is to assist the government efforts to prevent and alleviate the detrimental effects on health and the environment recurring from generation and improper disposal of industrial residues and to achieve the proposed policy target of containment and minimization of industrial effluents. |

To support the government efforts to prevent and minimize industrial sources of pollution and encourage the use of cleaner methods of production and waste minimization efforts by industry. |

To extend support to additional 4 State Pollution Control Board for strengthening of their facilities, equipment and skills in order to effectively exercise their mandate. |
|
To promote the development and application of novel techniques for the prevention, recycle, additional annual recurring revenue expenditure of Rs.19 lakhs. |
