The Andhra Pradesh State Board for Prevention and Control of Water Pollution was constituted on 24-01-1976 vide G.O Ms.No.27, dated 22-01-1976, after adoption of Water Act by State Legislature on 20-07-1975 vide official report Volume - I.

The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Cess Act, 1977 was enacted by the Parliament in the year 1977 to augment the resources of the Board. The Member Secretary of the Board is the collecting authority of Cess as per G.O Ms. No. 508, dated 12-05-1981 of Andhra Pradesh State Government.

The Board was entrusted with additional responsibility of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, vide G.S.R.35(E), dated 18-05-1981 since 16-05-1981

After implementation of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the Boards name was changed as Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.
